Magnolia Springs State Park was our first camping trip in our 2014 Forest River Rockwood 1970 model pop up camper. This beautiful park is located in Millen, Georgia. Visitors come to see it’s crystal clear spring that has 7 million gallons of water flowing per day. In the crystal clear water we were easily able to spot turtles with algae growing on their shells and a wide range of fish swimming.
In addition to the magnificent spring, there are 5 miles of hiking trails throughout the park. Along with the trails there is a boardwalk that spans the spring.
- Woodpecker Woods Nature Trail – 0.5 Miles
- Beaver Trail – 1.5 Miles
- Biking/Hiking Trail – 2 Miles
- Fort Lawton Historic Trail – 1 Mile
Magnolia Springs State Park History
Magnolia Springs State Park has over 1,000 acres between Perkins and Millen, Georgia. The park was named and built around the spring that flows through the area. During the Civil War this area was known as Camp Lawton. Built in the late summer of 1864 by enslaved laborers, Camp Lawton was a major Civil War prison. It was only in operation for three months. For more information on the prison history please visit Georgia State Parks site.
